The food quality is not only annoying, it's totally unaceptable. Yesterday i did not get any food at all because there were not enough lunch packs for everyone. On every conference i joined during my whole life they served food, cakes, drinks etc. during the whole day or at least during the breaks. Here i am happy if i could get water or coffee. Did Americans think, that Europeans do not need food or drinks?

Tip: After 13:00 the Messe Berlin Casino is opened for lunch to the public and the prices are OK. Its located on the topmost floor of hall 7.

Thank you for the hint with the casino ...

But the catering quality.. well either the organisators didnt want to pay more as some tiny coins or the Messe Berlin Service is totally crap.
(By the way: Did anyone find the web2expo shirts anywhere?)

Ohhh yes, the food was terribly poor and not OK for this entrance-price by Full Conference Pass.

Totally agree on poor quality and distribution.
Lunch run out before my session finished. When I asked one of the catering ladies in she just said 'finished' and shrugged her shoulders on my comment that I hadn't received anything yet. Fortunately a new batch arrived 10 minutes later when I was just about to give in and buy something at the Expo.

Having been to JavaOne a number of times in SF, I was unpleasantly surprised by the simplicity and lack of choice.

Guess who sponsored the "Food". As 1.0 the company produced toilet paper, now they are a billionen dollar / euro company and the leading handset manufacturer. Its NOKIA. I am wondering, why they didn't print their name on the lunch bags :-)

The Messe Berlin Management now closed the Casino for the public and placed an officer at the entrance :-(

Maybe because of to many 2.0 visitors?

I am suprised about the catering aswell - on every single barcamp I have attended so far, the catering was better - when you don't get something good to eat and drink everything gets really strenuous :(

the casino tip from klaus nahr only worked on the first day. on tuesday the messe had security guys sending us away. so no warm food for lunch anywhere.
good thing: they reacted on the feedback and supported us with good coffee and tea starting from tuesday.

?¿ the coffee and tea is a reaction on the feedback ?¿
Ump... sorry... but.... i never organized a conference yet but the catering is one of the things which would be on my ToDo-List...

Well,
I have to agree, it was such a poor quality,
especially if you have paid the full price for the fullconference pass...

Too little food for a 9-hour day

In San Francisco the lunch was a lot better - and there where 10x as many visitors!

I agree, that the lunch was bad. But I understand partially the organizers. It is impossible to make food for such numbers of people so that everyone likes it.

- The lunch has been a complete let down!
- The packed lunches ran out on the first day (05.11.2007)
- The water fountain was left empty for ages.
- The Speakers Lounge was unfinished on the first day (05.11.2007)
- Not enough seats for the attendees to enjoy their lunch. Everyone was forced to sit on the floor.

For sure things improved slightly over the course of the conference, but for the price of the conference I expect to see everything set up from day one. This definatelly reflects negatively on O'Reilly.

food that everyone likes ? its not about not liking it. its about the quality and the amount. its just not enough. 1000 sandwiches in this quality cost about 20 cent per pieces. i mean hello? i spend 1000 euros for the ticket end they use 10 euros for the food for the whole week??? :(

but i guess - and my german friends say that - the messe berlin isn the right place for an event with about 1500-2000 people. the messe area was builded for conferences and expos with 50k - 100k participants...

I thought that it was absolutely unacceptable to effectively give me food worth 10 EUR for an admission of 700+

In addition to the problems mentioned about lunch quality, another thing that the venue had a hard time offering was a nice place to actually eat your lunch. My group ended up having lunch in the center of Berlin and had a splendid time there. Eating at Messe Berlin, unfortunately, was a pretty sad experience that required long walks to sad-looking places.
