Stefan Weiss

Stefan is a Senior Manager with the Security & Privacy Services practice of the audit and consulting firm Deloitte in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

For the last 6 years, Stefan has advised multinational clients in securing their IT systems and assuring that personal data processed in their systems is protected and the business is compliant with privacy and data protection regulations. He is also the project editor of the two new privacy standards under development at the International Standardization Organization (ISO) in Subcommittee 27 (Security techniques), Working Group 5 on Identity Management, Privacy and Biometrics. Additonally, he is a member of IAPP, ISACA, IEEE, and the Assistant Team leader of the group on Privacy-Enhancing Technologies within the Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V. (GI e.V.).

Prior to joining Deloitte, Stefan has worked for in management positions for Citibank in the U.S. and in Germany and he has managed IT security consulting firms such as the Boston-based firm @stake (now part of Symantec) and the Swedish firm Defcom Security (now part of Pro Act Denmark).

Stefan holds a BBA and MBA from The George Washington University, Washington DC/USA.

Being on a part-time sabbatical from his employer Deloitte this year, Stefan currently conducts research in the area of privacy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. His PhD thesis addresses the issue of user privacy within Web 2.0 applications by developing privacy-enhancing methods specifically for social networking applications.
